I painted these four panels in the woods below the terrace playing fields to the south of Sherborne town. I found that, although my technique was improving, working directly from the motif gave the image a real sense of place, a raw authenticity you cannot get in the studio. One of the greatest things about the Art School at Sherborne is that tey encourage you to extend yourself; if you need to be transported to a special place to make a picture they will do everything to get you there.
