06/01/2009 31/01/2009 "When the intelligent water flooded its banks it formed a large round pool we approached it down Gas House Hill - past Gas Hill House over the level crossing with its preserved triangles of brown timber: over the rails that eel back to the places they came from. Gold hands sweep the seconds and close in prayer at the midtimes. To be honest when I finally found the place the satnav told me it was in the centre of that great pool. I waded in. The water showed me its strength, an archaic intelligence as dogmatic as the moon. Andrew Stooke The audience is not a somewhat unreal entity but is a part of creative process as an artwork starts/takes inspiration from people behaviours and the way they live and it allows different kind of social interaction. Therefore according to this kind of relational aesthetics the role of the artists is to invent relational networks and collaboration between people in the exhibition space as the objects themselves are not artwork but what constitutes art are the relationships produced or encouraged by the context. Meaning and sense of an artwork are the result of interaction between artwork and public and not an authoritarian fact. Nicolas Bourriaud Three artists visited Sherborne, they worked with the wonderful circumstances of this historic seat of learning. They are together looking in this space. They leave in their tracks a record. This is the shared presentation. |
